About the Guest:

Alex Brosque

Alex Brosque was born in Sydney, Australia, to Uruguayan parents, who migrated to Australia in the 1970s. In 2001 Brosque, aged 18, began his career playing for Marconi Stallions in the now defunct National Soccer League. His form at club and international level attracted international attention, and after the conclusion of the 03-04 NSL season Brosque signed for Dutch club Feyenoord Rotterdam. He was immediately loaned out to Belgian club Westerlo where he struggled due to an ankle injury, making only sixteen appearances and scoring two goals.

With the creation of the new A-League Brosque returned to Australia, signing for Brisbane Roar for the 2005–06 season. Next season he joined Sydney FC where he would go on to become a club legend, holding the record for appearances, goals and in 2019 was inducted into the club’s Hall Of Fame.

Captaining Sydney FC through their most successful period in history, Brosque has amassed 266 appearances across all competitions for the club – winning three consecutive Player of the Year awards between 2007 and 2010 and firmly cementing his status as a Legend. His trophy haul is equally impressive, earning three Hyundai A-League Championships, three Hyundai A-League Premierships and one FFA Cup - breaking records along the way as Sydney FC swept all before them in 2016/17 and earning more accolades as a Sky Blue than anyone else. He will go down as the club’s greatest ever player.

In January 2011, Brosque joined Japanese side Shimizu S-Pulse, followed by a 2 year stint with Al Ain in the UAE Pro-League, before re-joining Sydney FC in June 2014.

In 2004, Brosque made his senior international debut for Australia against Fiji in the OFC Nations Cup, and later in that year he also helped Australia reach the quarter finals at the 2004 Olympics. He went on to make 21 appearances for his country, scoring 5 goals, including crucial strikes in the 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign.

Brosque has seen the difference that his standing can make in the wider community and has been a passionate supporter of Common Goal globally and locally with Football United in Australia, helping raise awareness and millions of dollars for these projects that create a positive impact on young people’s lives through the power of the football community.
