Episode 136

Reclaiming Your Strength

Episode Summary

In this episode, Ian shares his view on regaining your strength in what might be a difficult aspect of your life. And it's completely essential for you to be able to turn up for the important people in your universe, your partner, your children, other significant people; it's important for you to have that confidence, reclaim your strength, to be able to show up for those individuals in the strongest and most helpful way.

Don’t miss:

  • Ian describes that you have to be in shape before you go out and attempt to push yourself because it will only lead to damage,
  • Ian explains how drive will help you with what you know you should do. You know that having the willpower to take the steps that you know are necessary in all of your life's areas.
  • Ian set forth that drive requires a certain amount of it, as well as a certain amount of confidence.
  • When you're ready, start taking initiative, finding that desire, finding that determination to do the things you know you're supposed to do.
  • The simpler choice is to say I'm not going to do it, and the easier option is to say I'm going to do it because I know what's on the other side of it.

I know the power of this work, I love to hear the impact these conversations have. Okay, let's get into it.

Reclaiming your strength can be a challenging part of your life. I want to reassure you though, it's absolutely possible. And it's absolutely necessary for you to live the life that you want to live on your terms, to be able to show up for the important people in your world, your partner, your children, other important people, it's important for you to have that strength, reclaim your strength to be able to show up for those people in the most powerful and beneficial way. Now, often as we get older than they can be parts of our strength that falls away physical strength, our mental strength. And both of those things can really surpass and start to eat away at our confidence at our competency, and just how we feel generally about life. And it's not about trying to go from zero to 100 and go, Okay, I've got to get fit, and then go out and try and push yourself because that will just result in injury, but it's about getting clear on what you want your life to look like from both those mental and physical aspects. Now mentally, it might take some drive, it might take some discipline. And you might have been taught that you know, it's don't push don't grind. But But drive is not grinding drive is not pushing for the sake of pushing. Drive is about doing the things that you know you need to do. having the discipline to take the action that you know is important for all those different areas of your life. So it takes an element of that, that takes an element of courage of saying, Well, I'm going to do this, I'm going to find a way. And when you do and you get really clear on what you want. From a physical and mental perspective, then amazing things can find you. It's like it finds. But really what you're doing is you're giving that part of your brain. That is the problem solver a clear guidance on what to find. It's why you're able to focus on certain things and they start showing up in your life. And you've heard me referenced that before things like the car you want to drive and suddenly you're seeing it everywhere. It's not because it's suddenly everywhere. It's because your brain out there has that focus, getting that clarity on what it is you want. And things will show up. I also want to remind you that the two important things going forward one is this concept of Well, you've come to a certain age and things are going to deteriorate. But are they My body feels as good as it's felt since I was a teen because I have this clear focus on continuing to push forward on continuing to push forward the music that language I'm continuing to move forward to drive on I need to drive to be disciplined when I need to be disciplined and take action on the things that I know I need to take action. So how do we do that? Well, part of it is the mental side of it. And this is the second thing I was going to mention is that your ability to think that maybe you've been told you're overthinking you've got too much going on in your head. It's actually one of your greatest strengths. So it's about starting to find the space to step into the way your brain operates. At its greatest

unfortunately, we live in a system that teaches us that it's almost like a one size fits all school does it business does it the workplace does it but you haven't unique way of thinking. And so for me, my thing is very much around conversation and connection. You may have heard me say before, so prioritising that in my life, and don't get bogged down in the times where I'm not fair tests are fantastic and detail and admin and numbers. But I know what I need to do, using my way of thinking that allows that to happen, and I get more mental strength by focusing on what I do well, not by stuck trying to do it a way that doesn't work for me. And the same with the physical capabilities. There's not one type of training that works for all. But if you can get clear on what you want to achieve, and then continue to move towards that, and the right solution that just for you will show up. Really important for both of these areas, that you're not focusing on what works for someone who says this is a foolproof thing, because then you'll you'll do it, it might not be right, and then you end up beating yourself up, you're down on yourself, not be able to take action, you blame yourself, but that's not how it is. To start getting clear. When you're ready, start taking that action, start finding that drive, start finding that discipline to do the things that you know, you are meant to do that you should do have the mental strength to say, I don't feel like it. But I'm going to do this anyway. And watch things start to unfold. It's amazing what we can talk ourselves into and out of. And both of them are challenging one lady in a place of feeling like well, I should have done this, I should have done that. The other one's difficult too. But on the other side of that you feel better. So you've got those two choices. The easy of taking the option of I'm not going to do it and the easier for I'm going to do it because I know what's coming the other side of it. Both at both had. The choice is yours. I'll leave that with you for today.
